Anti-Aging Your Neck, Chest, and Hands

does it work

If you’ve been reading my blogs for a while, you know I’m obsessed with both beauty tech and the power of red light. In fact I already did a general post about devices I’ve owned for YEARS here.

However, there were two areas I hadn’t been able to address with red light. While I was happy with the effect on my face, I worried that my neck, chest, and hands were going to give my age away.

Well, I’m not trying to HIDE my age, I just want to look how I feel inside.

I’ve always thought my hands look older than the rest of me. That’s pretty typical of people (me!) with chronically dry skin and a love of soaking in hot baths every day. My skin (and hands) pay the price. As for my chest – too many years laying out in the sun seeking the saint tropez tan sans sunscreen.

I’ve treated my chest for spots with moderate success (broadband laser and green light therapy). I regularly do things to try to work on the skin texture (glycolic acid toners, light peels) but with thin skin (like that on our neck and chest) aging really shows up.

When I take pictures and I don’t move, my skin can look 20 or 30. But as soon as I start to twist or turn, it’s pretty obvious that I’ve started to lose some of the firmness and plumpness the “naturally young” enjoy.

This also means that before and after pictures are hard to capture, but I’ll try!

I hoped that the green light device I purchased (which has a neck piece attached to it) would be sufficient to address my neck, but it didn’t cover the right area and, well frankly, the face mask HURTS. Which means that though it works, I simply hate using it regularly.

Then I stumbled on Omnilux.

Omnilux not only does face masks, but they have state of the art red light LED (for collagen production) for neck, chest, and hands.

The Devices

Enter the Omnilux Contour Neck and Décollete device and the Omnilux Contour Glove.

They are an investment. But when I think about the ONE TIME cost I’ll invest in these versus how long they will last AND how much alternative treatments cost in spas, I think it’s not hard to justify the prices.

The Omnilux Contour Neck & Décollete costs $395 at full price and the Omnilux Contour Glove costs $345 at full price.

Sit down. Breathe. Take a moment.

Okay – ready? We’ll continue then.

As I said, they are pricey and they are an investment. Often you can find sales or coupon codes so if you are hesitant to buy one, be patient and remember – it’s a one time investment.

The Neck and Décollete device has 54 LED bulbs with two bulbs each so that’s a total of 108 bulbs. In the world of red light, you want red and near infrared (Check!), a good bulb density (Check!), and the ability to get it close to the skin (Check!). The Glove has 72 LED bulbs with two bulbs each for a total of 144!

The treatment time for each device is 10 minutes and it automatically shuts off. They are both wireless which means you can still multi-task (or not) as you wear them. I find the perfect time is at night, after I’ve removed my makeup and sunscreen -while I’m relaxing and watching some netflix show.

The Test

I committed to using it daily for 60 days to see if I think it’s worth the cost enough to recommend it to my beloved readers.

Let’s admit that I’m already heavily biased towards a positive outcome, but I’ll let you judge for yourself.

I don’t know if I’m more critical of my before photos, if I inherently believe in the red light technology or if I’m also swayed by what it looks like in person. I definitely see an improvement in hands (which would be even better if I could remember to moisturize!) and in the neck. The biggest piece I hate is the vertical wrinkles in the neck and chest. I think they look better in the photos but they DEFINITELY are improved in person.

When I went to finally see my aesthetician friend once we were both fully vaccinated, the first thing she said when she looked at me was “What are you doing differently with your neck?”. No lie. She said my neck is visibly improved even though it didn’t look bad before.

The Down Low

In case you can’t tell, I think these are worth the investment. These two products really don’t have competitors in the market place so while I can’t rate them against any other devices, I will say that Omnilux has been a name brand in the medspa space with a good reputation. They are US based, though the products are manufactured overseas. I find both of these devices extremely comfortable to wear and easy to use.

You can multi-task while you wear them because they are lightweight and “portable” or wireless. They are rechargeable with an included USB-C cord. I found that the Neck and Décollete device holds a charge extremely well and only needed to be charged every couple of weeks. The glove has a smaller battery and has to run through two 10-minute cycles (one to each hand) each time you use it. I found that I needed to charge the batteries after each treatment set. While that’s a little annoying, it’s a small annoyance when it starts aging my hands in reverse!

In contrast, the greenlight mask I have (Hey, Omnilux would you consider making a greenlight version of these? I’ll buy them all!) has to be plugged in to work which means I am stuck by an outlet for 10 minutes. This was a minor irritation, coupled with the extreme discomfort of that product.

In fairness, Dr. Dennis Gross DRx SpectraLite™ BodyWare Pro at $435 with 148 red LED lights could be considered akin to the Omnilux Neck and Décollete but…it is rigid, not formed for the neck and, it can’t be worn while you’re doing other things.

I deduct points for inconvenience.

I traveled with both devices recently and found that because they store flat, they were easy to toss into my luggage so I didn’t have to miss a treatment.

You don’t have to do it every day, but I was testing for all of YOU and I didn’t want to cut and corners!

I think these are perfect luxury gifts and I’m sure they will be on this year’s gift giving guide. If you’re on my holiday list and you want one, let me know early since they have a tendency to sell out quickly when they get replenished.

It’s official. My love of LED light therapy remains intact and strong.

Next week I’ll be doing a red light mask comparison…with my own little spin on it. See you then!

Haha! If you had to pick one that most addresses your concerns, what would it be? Hands? Face? or Neck and Décollete?
