Review: Evenskyn® Lumo Facial Device

Review: Evenskyn® Lumo Facial Device

Part of my search to stave off unnecessary signs of aging involves creams, potions, and gadgets. So many gadgets…

Anti-aging gadgets can be costly, so I’m here to test them out for you before you spend your hard earned money.

Some gadgets are pricey for the sake of being pricey – because people like me will pay for it. I’m part of the problem, I know. But sometimes, the gadgets turn out to be worth it. And that sliver of hope is what keeps me coming back!

The Gadget

The item I’m talking about this time is EvenSkyn® Lumo: Premium Anti-Aging & Skin Tightening Handset. Let’s call her Lumo for short.

This lovely handheld, anti-aging device runs a whopping $569.99 on their website.

Wait! Don’t stop reading! The read is FREE!!

If you’re patient and keep an eye on it, you can get deals nearly $100 off so don’t buy on a whim with this one or you’ll be throwing away cash. Be patient. We are nearing the holidays so I’m sure there will be some deals.

I certainly have many gadgets that do one or two of the things this one does. But I like consolidation. Lumo comes packed with a wallop of modalities and it is FDA safety certified.

  1. Radiofrequency (RF) – 1 MgHz – voltage from 97V to 118 V through five ranges. Radiofrequency can help reduce signs of aging by tightening skin, promoting healthy cell turnover by stimulating collagen production (article). It can be used alone or with other treatments. The only one that doesn’t have RF with it is the Cool option.
  2. LED light therapy – Red light (623nm) and blue light (465nm). LED light therapy can reduce inflammation, stimulate collagen production and help kill bacteria that causes acne (article). The light therapy is integrated with the treatment modalities (except the the Cool option).
  3. Electric nutrient iontophoresis (ENI) – helps active absorption of water-based skin products using sonic massage (10Hz).
  4. Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) microcurrents – works in three modes: ION (2.75mA), ENI (2.75-12.5mA), and EMS (3 – 15mA) with levels of intensity. Electrical muscle stimulation microcurrent also stimulates the layers beneath the skin to produce elastin, collagen while toning the face (article).
  5. Ionic (ION) deep cleansing – uses sonic therapy (100Hz) to cleanse skin. An outer magnetic ring allows you to use a thin cleansing pad over the device.
  6. Cool semiconductor refrigeration – helps shrink pores and calm skin with 57F/13C 30 second treatment

I was primarily interested in the radiofrequency which none of my other tools and gadgets have. The rest were bonus.

When I look at the sticker shock of the gadget, I consider that a facial will cost me over $100 + tip. If I’m using it regularly, it really is an investment and the cost of use is driven down pretty quickly!

It’s worth saying so we all acknowledge it – at home treatments take longer to get results. The non-professional user will have a less powerful product and you will need to use it steadily. You don’t get the satisfaction of immediate results, but results you will get.

First Impressions

The user guide says that people over 40 (Hey! That’s me!) may use the device 2-3 times a week. The first few cycles I tried all of the modes but quickly settled into my favorites.

Radio Frequency

I like it. It seems that only the small head in the middle is the “power”. I used it on the highest setting. Warm but no discomfort. The LED light alternated between red and blue. You can glide it over the skin, with or without water based lubrication. The head gets a little warm, even hot sometimes. This was apparently updated in the latest devices that came out in July of 2022. I purchased my just before the update.

ION

This one touts that it can be used with a cotton round. I tried it with a reusable bamboo round and a standard cotton round. Neither fit. I don’t anticipate using it this way personally, but I thought it was interesting. I tried it with a thin single ply and thought it was okay. I did not mind this modality…I just have a cleansing process I didn’t feel like giving up so I didn’t use this regularly.

ENI

This pulsed, buzzed (the sonic part I assume) and had the radio frequency with red light. I seriously felt like I saw a difference in my skin – but I used this as step three after RF and EMS.

EMS

The thing I like about this is that it can be used without a conducting gel. That is a bonus for me. Without a gel, I can handle the device on level three. WITH gel – well I never could get past two. It is INTENSE! I’ve used a number of at home microcurrent devices and this definitely feels the strongest. It was uncomfortable with gel so I started using it with just a water based moisturizer. In July 2022 an updated version came out that specifically feels less intense, per the website.

Cool

Wow. This is really cool. It gets downright cold and feels wonderful on the skin. It is used to cool the skin and shrink the pores after treatment. Though there are limits on using the device, I have to believe that it doesn’t apply to this mode. This is the only one that doesn’t use radio frequency. Other modes need limits because you don’t want to overdue the use of RF on the skin.

Overall, the look is sleek, the charge lasts a fairly long time (it comes with a charging stand), it is easy to use, and it’s comfortable in my hand.

But Does It Work?

I committed to using the device everyTuesday, Thursday, and Sunday for two months. I used the radio frequency and EMS modes every time and the others infrequently. I also stopped my gua sha routine and all of my other devices while I tested this for us all!

Here are the results, before and after.

My conclusion: It definitely made a difference. Not dramatic perhaps but I see movement in the right direction. I can see lifting in my eyelids – slight – but I consider it movement in the right direction and believe it will continue to improve with continued use. I definitely see more firmness in my neck and “jowls”. Honestly if I hadn’t taken before and after I wouldn’t be able to confirm it.

I will definitely keep using it and I may come back with another comparison in 6 months. However, I will be adding back in my other favorite tools – so maybe the results in combination will be more dramatic.

I hope this review is informative and answers questions you may have about the Lumo device. Do you have it? No. Definitely not. But if you want an all-in-one tool that is easy to travel with, consider this device.
